Seven Springs Vineyard is a brand new wine producer situated in the beautiful Overberg district of the Western Cape in South Africa. Situated on the R320 Hemel en Aarde Road, between the seaside town of Hermanus, famous for it's land based whale watching (in Walker Bay) and the world famous Fernkloof Nature Reserve and the spa town of Caledon. Our first wines shall be produced in 2010 when we will have a limited and select production of 9,000 bottles. These wines will be made up of a Sauvigon Blanc, an unoaked Chardonnay, a lightly oaked Chardonnay and a Syrah. In 2012 we shall introduce Pinot Noir to our portfolio once our young vines have sufficient maturity to produce a class wine. We are making our first wines at the award winning Iona Vineyards, www.iona.co.za, in Elgin, Western Cape, famous for their classic, world class, Sauvignon Blancs. 2010 will see the building of a winery and tasting room. In January 2010 we took on our winemaker, Riana van der Merwe, after recommendation from our friends Guillaume Nell, winemaker at Backsberg Estate Cellars, www.backsberg.co.za, and Corina du Toit, Sales and Marketing Manager at Eikendal Wine Estate, www.eikendal.com. Our vineyard manager is Peter Davison who has honed his viticultural skills in the Hemel en Aarde Valley. Our mission is to produce wine of the highest quality from a beautiful vineyard site that has been identified for it's superb Bokkeveld soil profile and specific microclimate. Our influence comes from the cooling oceanic breezes which temper the daytime temperatures allowing a longer grape ripening period. We aim to produce wines that reflects the unique 'terroir' that our 10 hectare (25 acre) vineyard has been blessed with, allowing each variety to express it's unique style.
