My greatest joy is teaching the Alexander technique. I do this in a variety of ways. I have my own private clients, which include horse riders and their horses. We do lovely gentle work in the school, looking at self carriage of the rider and how this instantly affects the horse. With one rider we have changed the horse from a stiff, slightly nervous boy to a clam horse with a lovely flexible back. I teach people with back pain too, helping them recognise their own misuse triggers and how to change them. I run an Alexander Teacher Training College. That's probably the greatest thrill, teaching people how to use their hands and their bodies in a springy elastic way that transmits an 'up' to receiving pupils! It's fun! I do some corporate work too, helping business people avoid stress and enhance their performance skills. In my spare time I sew, rag-rug, paint and write. Walk my two dogs and keep my little garden as full of colour as I can. Before training as an Alexander teacher- and doing a masters study in it- I did a textiles and embroidery degree at Goldsmiths in London- seems a long time ago now. I've written a book! Body, Breath & Being- a new guide to the Alexander Technique- it's selling well and people like it so I'm happy. I got my training course accredited too- so my students can get academic credits if they wish. That means doing some good thinking about what we are up to in the Alexander Technique. It's not just about back pain- it's about so many things I will run out of characters before I could list them. So I'll just say- its part of life and a big part of mine.
