Bankstown Women's Health Centre is a community-based not-for-profit service initiated by women, for women. It provides free or heavily discounted services to women from Bankstown, South Western Sydney, the inner west and wider Sydney. The service operates under feminist principles and offers a holistic approach to health care that incorporates the body, mind and emotions. It acknowledges the role of gender in the social determinants of health, and aims to promote gender equity in health. The Centre's services include medical clinics, generalist counselling, child sexual assault counselling, remedial massage, naturopathy, legal outreach services and Vietnamese women's health. Our female doctors specialise in women's health issues such as Pap smears, breast checks, pregnancy, contraception and menopause. The Centre also offers a wide variety of therapeutic and exercise groups, including Tai Chi, Yoga, Meditation, Belly Dancing, a Vietnamese Women's Support Group and Craft. Other groups that may be run from term to term include Healthy Lifestyles, Writing for Fun, Beating the Blues, Assertive Communication, Dream Workshops, Aromatherapy, and Arthritis Workshops, to name just a few. Women can join the exercise groups at any time within the term, and for these classes you can drop by on any date and join in. The remaining (therapeutic) groups require you to book in to register your interest. Groups normally run for 8-10 weeks are are either free of charge or cost $4 per session.
