According to the National Abortion Federation, one in three American women will have an abortion by age 45. Abortion is one of the safest medical procedures provided in the United States. Unfortunately, abortion, women's access to care, anti-abortion violence and misinformation about abortion is a very real problem in the US and elsewhere. I believe that every woman's experience of their reproductive health and health events is unique. For some, pregnancy can be a joyful and welcome moment. For others, an unwanted pregnancy or unexpected pregnancy, for example, can be about difficult choices and decisions: abortion pill or morning after pill, surgical abortion or planned adoption. The common thread is choice. I work at an abortion clinic in the Metro DC area. As an employee of an abortion provider that endeavors to support women's right to choice, provide quality care and caring, and protect the confidentiality and privacy of our patients, I and others struggle to do our work in the face of intimidation, hostility, harassment and threats of violence. Sometimes, it's hard. Sometimes, helping the women that we care for... makes all the hard, worthwhile. I'm here to share, discover and participate in the online conversation and discussion about abortion and the other things that interest me. I hope to be diligent. That's how I chose my Twitter name, Diligence. Hoping to hear from you soon! Follow me on Twitter.
