Bio

I am a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist and Certified Diabetes Educator working at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, and as a nutrition consultant. My strong professional and educational background, and years of experience, have made me a highly sought after expert in the field of nutrition. I practice a holistic and integrative approach providing science-based guidance on food and diet along with nutritional supplements and natural health products where appropriate. I am regularly called upon by the media to make sense of the latest nutrition and food issues. I am experienced in television, radio and print media. For over three years I wrote a column in the Toronto Star called the Vice Squad where I reviewed various food products not only on their nutritional merit but with a focus on the marketing angle and product claims which are a major source of confusion for most consumers. The column now runs in the Hamilton Spectator. I have offered my expertise on nutrition articles for Healthy Directions, Glow, Homemakers, Chatelaine, Reader's Digest, Now Magazine, The National Post, and LeDroit (Ottawa). I've been a guest on CHCH Television Morning Live and @ Home, CBC Radio, CP24's Wylde on Health, and 680 News. I also served as the nutrition expert for the Ministry of Health's former website, www.healthyontario.com, for four years where I wrote monthly articles on nutrition and diet. Most recently, I co-authored the book Nutrition for Canadians for Dummies (Wiley 2008).
