Dr. Karin R. Lawson

I am in private practice at the Institute for Girls' Development located in southern California. I do individual and group psychotherapy, specializing in eating disorders, disordered eating, negative body image, trauma, and interpersonal effectiveness. In addition, I use biofeedback and teach mindfulness to help people increase their coping strategies whether they are experiencing chronic anxiety or unique stressful periods, such as medical illness, loss, and life transitions. My work also involves facilitating educational and experiential workshops for professionals, as well as the public. Topics that I have often presented include: balance and wellness, mindfulness, enhancing friendships, stress management, self-criticism, media literacy particularly as it relates to body image struggles, the social world of girls and the body image of the eating disorder professional. Furthermore, I also enjoy writing relaxation scripts for recording.
