Bio

Ethnic Supplies is the brain child of Ugandan born Ida Horner. Having visited Kabale a town in the South West part of her native Uganda in December 2006, the Poverty that she witnessed prompted Ida to quit her job as a Housing Manager for a London council to set up Ethnic Supplies Ltd. – a social enterprise specialising in African handicrafts and textile, art and crafts from East Africa. Ethnic Supplies supports women in the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Madagascar by sourcing handmade handicrafts and fashion accessories from suppliers that support women to be financially independent or directly from established women's groups in rural locations. African handicrafts enable poverty stricken women to lift themselves out of poverty. In many African countries women are still marginalized, excluded from education and formal employment but retain responsibilities for ensuring that the family is clothed and fed. We have a range of ethically produced and fairly traded fashion accessories, including: the world famous Kiondo, African hand bags and baskets peculiar to , Kikoy, wraps silk scarves as well as hand made tableware
