I'm Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of WellTek Incorporated, an exercise-science based health, fitness and wellness company. In mid 2008, Welltek acquired a 23-yr old brand, MedX, which has earned a global reputation for excellence in the manufacture of medical & fitness exercise equipment. MedX machines are recognized as the industry's "gold standard" for science-based rehabilitative exercise & for building core muscle strength. To capitalize on MedX's well-trusted reputation, we are executing a strategy leveraging the brand in hi-growth market sectors within our industry. Of these growth platforms, I am perhaps most excited about our Pure HealthyBack program. Pure HealthyBack uses MedX machines and rehabilitative exercise to help patients resolve chronic back & neck pain — ailments that afflict nearly 80% of all Americans and cost the healthcare system $100 billion each year. The program provides non-surgical treatment and has documented success in improving spinal function and reducing symptoms in those who have tried and failed a number of other spine treatment solutions. Treatment is directed by physicians and administered by physiologists and athletic trainers. Pure HealthyBack is developing 6 pilot programs in collaboration with managed care & self insured companies. The pilots will be implemented with patients that have cost the payers more than $10k per year in layered medical costs from other medical interventions or prior to surgery. Each pilot will accept a maximum of 500 patients and continue for 1-yr. Then we will expand the program nationally to thousands of patients who have been on a medical merrygoround and have not found lasting relief. Our program was developed to reduce managed care & self insured companies' spine treatment costs. Current methods for treating back & neck pain have major shortcomings, including expensive, unnecessary and unproven procedures and increasing surgical rates.
