Sven Knutsen

Bio

Sven Knutsen has worked extensively in a freelance professional capacity in the Australian Arts industry since 1976 in technical and management capacities for 30 years. As Production Manager, Stage Manager, Lighting Designer and many associated fields for many companies in 5 Australian states. As a manual lighting board operator since 1976 Sven began working with computerised lighting control systems in 1983 and immediately became enthralled and intrigued with the technology. Over the next 7 years he became familiar with several control systems including the Vari-Light boards that he used at the Sydney Show Grounds in 1990-1991. Sven began to realise his extensive technical Theatre skills base could be easily applied toward the emerging domestic and commercial computer industry. Discovering that many skills gained in the Arts industry could be transferred to the problem solving requirements of modern computers that were beginning to make their way into homes and offices around Australia. In 1991 a long term ambition of forming his own company was realised with the formation of Meerkat Production Services. In late 1991 Sven bought his first Apple Macintosh computer and began to analyse the computers operating systems and study them intensively for 3 years. Once he worked out how to turn the computer on and off it was a simple process of deduction (With extensive research) to discover how it worked and how to keep them working and what happened when you plugged other devices into them like printers and other computers and began to build and manage computer networks. By 1998 I had permanently shifted the client database from Arts clients to computer clients. So changed the name of the company to reflect this change to Meerkat Computer Services. In December 2009 MCS opened the virtual doors of our new online e-Store Meerkat Computers Store where we can easily provide sound advice for our clients product purchases and additional services to our growing client base.
