Bio

I have been working in the marketing field since 1992. It's my second career: my first was in systems development for General Motors, Ford and others. I got online in 1977, was a community manager for America Online in the early 1990s, and in 1994 began building many 1.0 websites and digital programs for companies like P&G, RCA, Johnson & Johnson, GE and many more. That kicked off a crazy career in which I lived all over the US, pitched a million clients, landed a lot of business and broke digital ground through many "firsts": one of the first ad servers, one of the first content management systems, one of the first AI-powered websites, the first webcasts, etc. I also began blogging in 1995, long before there was such a word. I'm fascinated with identity and message. Since 2001, I've been focusing on traditional branding, messaging and positioning, and have built a wide variety of marketing collateral, corporate videos, event marketing programs, direct and email campaigns, and traditional print ads. I also help clients with social marketing strategies, Twitter campaigns, branded Facebook pages, etc. That seems to be one area of marketing not crushed by this recession. Much of marketing has become hollow for me, now that we are facing massive problems with our economy, jobs, the environment, social injustice, etc. I am attempting to rewrite my skills set and job opportunities to work on those problems rather than marketing offerings that give back nothing.
