Social Media Marketing is more than getting an online presense within one or two platforms! Presence alone is not enough and often looks like an ill planned marketing project. A true social media plan must be relevant, be engaging and of course relay a purpose. In reality, it needs to be more about the customer and less about you. Social media dictates that one honestly present information without always trying to make a sale! Not abiding by this unwritten rule of authenticity is a sure fire way to turn off your current and prospective customers, aka your subscribers, fans, followers. The easiest way to begin whooing your subscribers is to engage in personal interaction and build relationships. Time must be spent in this area, but it is time well spent and you will be rewarded. By engaging and interacting with your customers on this level you will not only develop a large amount of subscribers, you will also develop the beginnings of viral marketing. In planning a social media campaign, consider each platform it's own entity. There should be some continuity, a purpose or goal for each one, but at the same time they should have their own personality. Success within each platform differs and should be measured accordingly. Within Facebook, one must maintain profiles, fan pages and groups. Within Twitter, tweets must be often and purposeful and followers tended to. Blogs entries have to be consistent and often. And....all of these need to be seemlessly integrated!
