Professionally, I am a network engineer who has spent 17 years designing high bandwidth data networks. I have designed various systems from radio links up to very high capacity DWDM fiber backhaul networks. I have always loved technology even from a very young age. Beginning in 6th grade I had a computer in my room. I am always looking to integrate new technology (or gadgets)into everyday life. I especially enjoy teaching others how to use new technology to improve their lives. Personally, I am very big on fitness. At one time I weighed nearly 300 pounds and at some point I decided I had enough. I lost nearly 100 pounds in 2006 and have kept it off without any fad diets or radical fitness tricks...just old fashioned counting calories and frequent exercise. Eventually I may post some fitness related videos I make myself however since I generally don't like fitness videos that may be a ways off. My goal is to share some advice and hopefully encourage others to get fit (without sounding too much like some of the trainers out there). As I mentioned before, I try to integrate technology into everything I do. Therefore a lot of my updates will be due to the vast network of interconnected social media profiles I set up. Also, since I have integrated technology into fitness I often upload GPS information during my bikes and runs and share some of the music that motivates me during my activities via Pandora. As I touched on in my professional summary I love to help others whether it be understand high tech concepts, get fit, or generally make their lives better. I am putting together a one man fundraiser to benefit Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. They have taken good care of my daughter as well as thousands of area children (did I mention I love kids as well?). For progress on the setup of this fundraiser and for more info go to http://curtiswsmith.com/personal-me-runner-cyclist-techie/. I will keep that page updated with the latest on that.
