She is a graduate of The George Washington University in Washington, DC, and of Boston University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts. Attorney Van Ess was first licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia and more recently in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Attorney Van Ess is a member of the American Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Massachusetts Women's Bar Association. A long-time advocate for all women and children survivors of violence, in her first seven years as an attorney, she worked both in Washington, DC and from Boston, Massachusetts, for national nonprofit organizations primarily in the areas of family law and domestic violence. For the last two of those years Attorney Van Ess focused largely on violence against Native American women and their families. In 2007 Attorney Van Ess decided to pursue her dream of starting a solo practice to provide her clients with a high caliber of legal services as well as to attain the flexibility and stability she was seeking for her own family. She is grateful for the support of her husband and their young children.
