I was "naturally green" by birth, I guess, born in Canada. I now do development for biofuels, biofuels technology, and algae in particular. I am excited about a project we are working on to develop a whole string of islands of independent green energy creation all across Africa and Latin America. It is called the GEMPALA project . [Green Energy Marshall Plan for African and Lat. America] We have found a successful formula of "circular intergration" (a lot like traditional "vertical integration") of making biodiesel and/or pyrolitic oils then upgrading them to "biojet fuel". We plan to be purchasers of local farmers' agricultural output: oil and biomass from jatropha curcas, we also encourage intercropping of other market garden crops between the rows of jatropha bushes. Primarily we will grow algae. We extract oil in a way similar to OriginOil's microalgae separation technique; though closer to Colorado Lining's "electrocoagulation", a decades old method from the waste water treatment. The "husks" of algae sink to the bottom, the oil rises to the top. Weirs separate the two. "Husk" portions can be fermented (which only uses the starchy part of the algae content) to produce alcohol used in the biodiesel making process. Left over portions still contain valuable chemicals like alginic acid used in cosmetics and medicines. Even after extracting oil & chemicals it can be ground into a fine flour for use in making protein enriched food for people, or used as a feed supplement for cattle or other livestock. We also use deep water wells & desalination (where necessary), waste water treatment with feeds algae, gasification of biomass including sewer sludge, and making RENEWABLE JET FUEL (a cash crop). It's ambitious, but it's adaptable and flexible. We provide locally sourced energy security for any country that accepts us. Majority equity goes to local coops with guidance from NGOs.
