Trained as a Chemical Engineer, with a PhD in energy conservation in industrial processes, I have spent the most part of the last 20 years in the not-for-profit sector campaigning for environmental protection and social change. I have worked for Greenpeace in Sweden, Australia, the US and at the global HQ in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in a range of capacities, most recently as International Programme Director with responsibility for the development and implementation of Greenpeace's global campaign programme. I have also worked for NGOs campaigning for more research and better support for cancer patients, as well as against abuse and exploitation of women. In 1996 I moved to Australia and despite having been away for a couple of overseas postings since, Australia is what I call home. I have dual Swedish and Australian citizenship. Having a long and diverse background in the not-for-profit sector I decided to set up my own company in early 2009 to focus on supporting the civil society sector with strategy development, campaign design, training and capacity building - in short to contribute to making the civil society sector even stronger and more effective. Amongst other things, I am currently assisting ActionAid in Australia (due to launch in June 2009) with the development of their campaign programme and campaigning capacity. My company is called StrategyforChange Consultancy, and you will be able to access the website (www.strategyforchange.org) from some time in August 2009. I can be contacted on email lena.aahlby@strategyforchange.org, so please drop me a line if you think I can help your organisation in any way.
