When I graduated from Boston University, I was intent on being a great elementary school teacher...and I never taught little kids at all. I couldn't get a teaching job in New York City at the time, and so I went to a placement agency, Career Blazers and they sent me for a job as an assistant editor for biomedical magazine. While studying at BU, I was great in English, and history. Science courses dragged me down...but there I was at Laboratory Magazine writing product releases and short pieces for the magazine. That summer, the editor died, and I was promoted (heaven help the people who were reading it)I stayed there many years though and loved publishing. I worked for Greystone Press and wrote their encyclopedias and then their direct mail campaigns. Well I shouldn't say "authored" as I just write the way I speak...endlessly. I stayed in publishing, was divorced and a single mom, and needed to make more income to support us and help my parents. At Better Homes and Gardens (Meredith) I had the chance to work with direct marketing agencies and they seemed so creative and were having so much fun doing our programs. I wanted to go agency side. So I wrote to the best, Lester Wunderman and was soon hired to work there. It began my great love affair with marketing and helping clients build businesses and corporations grow their client bases. After that, I had great jobs as head of J.Walter Thompson Direct in Toronto, and AC&R Direct (a Saatchi and Saatchi agency) in New York. So, I started my own agency with a partner: Mason & Geller Direct on Madison Avenue in NY for about 14 years, and now the Lois Geller Marketing Group in Hollywood, Fl. I moved my agency here when my Mom became ill, and I had to be with her at the end of her life. I love speaking at many great conventions, wrote 4 books on marketing, Response! The Complete Guide to Profitable Direct Marketing is one. So, I never taught kids, but I still teach marketing at many places each week, on stage at Twitter.
