I have spent nearly thirty years in all kinds of businesses: Manufacturing, service, non-profit, internet. I have learned from every single one. I spent the most amount of time at Thermal Engineering Co., a manufacturer of refrigeration service tools for the HVAC & R market. I have an associates degree in refrigeration and I quickly learned my strong suit was explaining technical concepts in easy to understand language. The contractors I worked with were the best and toughest teachers I ever had. I learned early on never to bluff. I tell budding entrepreneurs that "I don't know" and "Tell me why I'm wrong" may be the two best sentences they can ever utter. It opens up a conversation that may not have occurred otherwise. I spent time as a certified indoor air specialist. I loved the training as it was so closely related to HVAC. I was a little ahead of my time in the market but I am glad other companies have been very successful since then. Non-profits are their own world. A partner and I wanted to teach non-traditional subjects to women and minorities especially forklift driving and HVAC. The bureaucracy got to me and we closed after a year. I have a blog on Typepad called Straight To The Point and a column on Newsvine called I Know What Heaven Is. I am passionate about start ups and entrepreneurs. I am also a political fanatic and will focus on how small business and government can work together. My online TV show "Daily Business Intel" will be coming in the next few weeks. My newest obsession is BizTube247. It is a video file sharing website for business only. Unlike common file sharing sites such as YouTube we accept video(s) up to one gig and will be offering pay per view services. Members can start a private group for their companies, earn extra revenue by re-purposing material into a pay per view or just help educate other businesses.
